100 Days 100 Drawings Series.

When I think of art I think of beauty. Beauty is the mystery of life. It is not in the eye, it is in the mind. In our minds there is awareness of perfection. It's been 50 days since I decided to make a drawing a day for one hundred days, a challenge that has taught me to make art for art's sake. Compared to jewelry making, drawing does not feel like work. It lacks the physical effort and serves no practical function. While I’ve fallen in love with this medium, I have also felt in conflict by its futility. Had I not committed to this challenge I would have given up weeks ago. I am glad I didn’t. My practical mind is finally getting used to the idea that my job is to create, no matter what medium I use, or what I make. I recently read Amanda Palmer's The Art of Asking, and was reminded of the true function of my work as an artist: You are an artist when you say you are. And you’re a good artist when you make somebody else experience or feel something deep or unexpected. Now more than ever I let my curiosity lead and I try to connect with a deeper space within me as I create. This lets me be present to the process and let go of the results. Drawing regularly has also made me paint again. What I've made so far does not come close to what I envision in my mind, but I know it will if I keep trying. Drawing 50. Cat Fish. Silver ink on paper. 100 Days 100 Drawings Series. Today is my dear mom's birthday. I made her a feather shaped brooch, because she gave me wings to fly. Thank you for letting me know which necklace you liked best! Your opinion helped me decide which to cast. Between the comments left on Facebook and Instagram, this is the favorite pendant. I will soon make it in three metals, and it will be available in my online shop. Have a great weekend! I have been working on several projects at a time. One of them is a small jewelry collection that I will cast in bronze, silver and brass. I was waiting to complete the series before I shared it with you, but I need your help to decide which pieces to reproduce. I made three snake pendants inspired by one of the drawings from my 100 Day project series. I have been drawn to snakes lately, perhaps because they represent rebirth and vital energy, two aspects of creation which I have contemplated often now that I re-visit the unfamiliar territory of drawing and painting. I´d love to know which of the three pendants you prefer. Please leave your comments in my Facebook or Instagram page. |
